The weather here in central Texas for the last couple of days has been a little crazy. It has been raining cats and dogs which of course means that my students are a bit on the crazy side. Who likes being cooped up inside all day?
To combat the crazy we have been doing lots of hands on activities. Included in this is one of my favorite units for science, Earth's Slow Changes. This unit is all about weathering, erosion, and deposition. I just love all the fun ways that we get to show these constructive and destructive forces.
After some vocabulary instruction, we got right into landforms with the always amazing The Science Penguin's science stations Weekly Five-Landforms. These stations are truly incredible and allow students to extend their content knowledge through practice and varied learning experiences.
As students finish up their stations and other work, I have an Earth's Slow Changes TicTacToe Board available for them to continue their practice. I have found that when students choose which activities they want to do they put a lot more thought into their final products thus furthering their knowledge. This also ensures that no matter the pace that each student is working at they have meaningful content practice to keep them going.
