Writing Camp!

Next week is the STAAR writing test for fourth graders here in Texas which means that we are totally freaking out having fun with a writing camp. The goal of this week is to have a lot of fun and complete memorable activities that will allow students to be super successful next week.

So... we have never done a writing camp before and I was beyond lost on where to get started.Enter Lorraine from Fabulous Fourth Grade Froggies and her fabulous camp!

It was love at first sight, and sound, and read! She does in fact have some amazingly fabulous ideas for what to do to get our kiddos ready. She has a download on her blog that includes a daily agenda, songs to sing, and even a parent letter. I am telling you, LOVE!

So to get into the spirit of things I decorated our room up a bit. We have a tree (which didn't turn out nearly as well as the one on Pinterest.) We also have a night sky complete with glow in the dark stars.

I brought in my tent from home, which by the way looks much bigger inside than it does outdoors. I also brought in a few fold up chairs like the green one in the front of the picture. Our carpet was supposed to represent a pond, but the tent took up a little more room than I previously anticipated. You can still see the canoe in the background... sort of.

Finally, students brought in their sleeping bags and pads to lounge around the room to complete our look. I can't wait to report back with how the first day went!
